Medical Experts Questioning the Coronavirus Lockdowns

No, all experts do not agree.

A growing number of medical experts around the world are questioning the destructive emergency measures being implemented by governments, exposing the unreliable underlying data guiding their decisions. This page is a compilation of the these highly-regarded doctors and professors who have spoken out publicly.

Dr. John Ioannidis

“The data collected so far on how many people are infected and how the epidemic is evolving are utterly unreliable. Given the limited testing to date, some deaths and probably the vast majority of infections due to SARS-CoV-2 are being missed. We don’t know if we are failing to capture infections by a factor of three or 300. Three months after the outbreak emerged, most countries, including the U.S., lack the ability to test a large number of people and no countries have reliable data on the prevalence of the virus in a representative random sample of the general population.”

Dr. Sucharit Bhakdi

“As Emeritus of the Johannes-Gutenberg-University in Mainz and longtime director of the Institute for Medical Microbiology, I feel obliged to critically question the far-reaching restrictions on public life that we are currently taking on ourselves in order to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.”

“[The coronavirus emergency measures] are grotesque, absurd and very dangerous… All this will impact profoundly on our whole society. All these measures are leading to self-destruction and collective suicide based on nothing but a spook.”

Dr. Anders Tegnell

“I am very sceptical of lockdowns altogether but if you ever do them, you should do them at an early stage… At certain times I suppose they can be useful, if you are unprepared and need more intensive care facilities, for example, but you are really just pushing the problem ahead of you.”

Dr. Annie Bukacek

“The CDC counts both true COVID-19 cases and speculative guesses of COVID-19 the same. They call it death by COVID-19. They automatically overestimate the real death numbers, by their own admission.”

Dr. Cameron Kyle-Sidell

“Everything I have seen in the last nine days, all the things that just don’t make sense, the patients I’m seeing in front of me, the lungs I’m trying to improve, have lead me to believe that COVID-19 is not this disease. And that we are operating under a medical paradigm that is untrue. In short, I believe we are treating the wrong disease, and I fear that this misguided treatment will lead to a tremendous amount of harm, to a great number of people, in a very short time.

Dr. Dan Yamin

“The actual number of people who are sick with the virus in South Korea is at least double what’s being reported, so the chance of dying is at least twice as low, standing at about 0.45% – very far from the World Health Organisation’s [global mortality] figure of 3.4%. And that’s already a reason for cautious optimism.”

Dr. David Katz

“I am deeply concerned that the social, economic and public health consequences of this near-total meltdown of normal life – schools and businesses closed, gatherings banned – will be long-lasting and calamitous, possibly graver than the direct toll of the virus itself.”

Dr. Eran Bendavid

“If the number of actual infections is much larger than the number of cases – orders of magnitude larger – then the true fatality rate is much lower as well. That’s not only plausible but likely based on what we know so far.”

Dr. Frank Ulrich Montgomery

“Italy has imposed a lockdown and it had the opposite effect. They quickly reached their capacity limits, but did not slow down the virus spread within the lockdown. A lockdown is a measure of political despair, because coercive measures mean that you can go further than the generation of reason.”

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya

“People plug the worst case scenario into their models, they project forward and say ‘2-4 million deaths’, newspapers pick up the ‘2-4 million deaths’, politicians have to respond… there is no study underlying that scientific projection… the denominator of that number does not exist.”

Dr. Joel Kettner

“I have never seen anything like this, anything anywhere near like this. I’m not talking about the pandemic, because I’ve seen 30 of them, one every year. It is called influenza. And other respiratory illness viruses, we don’t always know what they are. But I’ve never seen this reaction, and I’m trying to understand why… the data they’re getting is incomplete to really make sense of the size of the threat. We’re getting very crude numbers of cases and deaths, very little information about testing rates, contagious analysis, severity rates, who’s being hospitalised, who is in intensive care, who is dying, what are the definitions to decide if someone died of the coronavirus or just died with the coronavirus.”

Dr. Karen Mölling

“That is the main fear: the disease is presented as a terrible disease. The disease per se is like the flu in a normal winter. It is even weaker in the first week.”

Dr. Knut Wittkowski

“For all respiratory diseases, we have the same type of an epidemic. If you leave it alone, it comes for 2 weeks, it peaks, and it goes for 2 weeks, and it’s gone.”

Dr. Michael Levitt

“I don’t believe the numbers in Israel, not because they’re made up, but because the definition of a case in Israel keeps changing and it’s hard to evaluate the numbers that way… There is a lot of unjustified panic in Israel. I don’t believe the numbers here, everything is politics, not math”

Dr. Michael Osterholm

“What’s our goal? Is it to prevent everybody from getting infected? Is it to prevent people from being in the hospital? Is it to keep the economy at least viable? We don’t have a goal. That’s one of the challenges at the national level. And I’m tired of hearing people say, “We’ll do everything even if we overreact.”

Dr. Pablo Goldschmidt

“The ill-founded opinions expressed by international experts, replicated by the media and social networks repeat the unnecessary panic that we have previously experienced. The coronavirus identified in China in 2019 caused nothing less than a strong cold or flu, with no difference so far with cold or flu as we know…”

Dr. Peter Gøtzsche

“Our main problem is that no one will ever get in trouble for measures that are too draconian. They will only get in trouble if they do too little. So, our politicians and those working with public health do much more than they should do… Should it turn out that the epidemic wanes before long, there will be a queue of people wanting to take credit for this. And we can be damned sure draconian measures will be applied again next time. But remember the joke about tigers. “Why do you blow the horn?” “To keep the tigers away.” “But there are no tigers here.” “There, you see!”

“Based on the new insight, we also have to understand that many of the measures that we have implemented so massively today may even be counterproductive.”

“But we also need to be sensible. Quarantine belongs back in the Middle Ages. Save your masks for robbing banks. Stay calm and carry on. Let’s not make our attempted cures worse than the disease.”

Dr. Scott Jensen

“When we start talking about the data that goes into the modelling, we have to ask ourselves a question. Are we being forthright? are we sharing with the public?… we don’t need to be having it sugar-coated, we want to know what is going into your modelling… Fear is a great way to control people and I worry about that.”

Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai

“One size does not fit all. You don’t lockdown everyone… it’s a medieval model of medicine…. The approach that we should be taking is taking the people who are truly immuno-compromised, truly have COVID-19… They should be isolated… Those of us who are well, we should be back to work, we should be running this economy.”

Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg

“And what is missing at the moment is a rational way of looking at things. We should ask questions like: How have you found out that the virus is dangerous? How was it before? Didn’t we have the same thing last year? Is it even something new? That’s missing. And the king is naked.”

Prof. Yoram Lass

“[The swine flu] was a virus that reached the world from Mexico and until today there is no vaccination against it. But what? At that time there was no Facebook, or there maybe was, but it was still in its infancy. The coronavirus, in contrast, is a virus with public relations. Whoever thinks that governments end viruses is wrong.”
